This is the oldest sea fort in Western Europe. It dates from 1547 and once played an important role in the rich, maritime history of Zeeland, the traces of which you still find back.
Wandering around in the dark half-bastions, the casemates, the former powder rooms and in the imposing main bastion you get a good picture of earlier times.
